Canon PIXMA G3010 Scanner Problems

Step-by-step help for Canon PIXMA G3010 Scanner Problems.

Canon PIXMA G3010 scanner not working

If your Canon PIXMA G3010 prints normally but will not scan, the problem may be with the connection, scanner software, or the scanner selected on your computer.

Start with the basic checks below before reinstalling software.

Start with these quick checks

  1. Make sure the printer is turned on.
  2. Restart the printer and your computer.
  3. If you use USB, check that the USB cable is securely connected.
  4. If you use Wi-Fi, make sure the printer and computer are connected to the correct network.
  5. Try scanning again.

Canon also recommends trying a different USB port and connecting directly to the computer rather than through a USB hub when troubleshooting a USB-connected scanner.

Scanner not working over USB

If your G3010 is connected by USB:

  • Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
  • Try another USB port on the computer.
  • If you are using a USB hub, connect the printer directly to the computer instead.
  • Restart the computer and try scanning again.

If printing works over USB but scanning still does not, check the Canon scanner software next.

Scanner not working over Wi-Fi

If you scan over your network, first confirm that the printer is still connected to the network.

If you recently changed your router, Wi-Fi network name, password, or network settings, you may need to reconnect the printer before network scanning will work again.

If you have changed from USB scanning to network scanning, Canon also requires the appropriate network scanning environment to be configured in IJ Scan Utility.

Check MP Drivers and IJ Scan Utility

On Windows, the G3010 uses Canon’s MP Drivers, which include the scanner driver. Canon’s IJ Scan Utility can be used to scan documents and photos from the computer.

If IJ Scan Utility is installed, open it and try a simple scan.

If the scanner is not detected or the required Canon software is missing, reinstall the appropriate software from Canon’s official support resources.

HelpMyTechs does not host or redistribute Canon drivers or software.

Scanner stopped working after a Windows update

If scanning stopped after upgrading Windows, Canon recommends disconnecting the USB cable, uninstalling the MP Drivers and IJ Scan Utility, and then reinstalling them.

Download the current software through Canon’s official resources rather than third-party driver websites.

ScanGear does not open

ScanGear is Canon’s scanner driver.

If ScanGear will not start, check that the MP Drivers are installed and that the correct G3010 scanner or printer is selected in the application you are using.

You can also try scanning directly through Canon IJ Scan Utility. Canon notes that ScanGear requires a compatible application when it is launched from another program.

Scanning starts but freezes or stops

Restart the computer and try again.

If the problem happens when scanning a large image or at a high resolution, try reducing the scan resolution. Also check that your computer has enough free storage space.

Canon additionally recommends disconnecting unnecessary USB devices when troubleshooting a computer that stops responding during scanning.

Still can’t scan?
