Step-by-step help for HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw Error Codes.
Use the touchscreen message as the starting point
The M255dw has a color touchscreen, so many problems are communicated as messages rather than a single universal blinking-light code. Record the exact wording before restarting the printer; the message often identifies the area that needs attention.
Paper jam messages
HP documents M255-series messages such as a jam in the output bin, a jam in the print paper path, or a request to check the single-sheet slot. Follow the location named on the touchscreen and inspect that paper path carefully.
HP also notes that a reported jam can be real or false. If no paper is visible, do not assume the message is meaningless; follow the documented checks for the indicated path and then use HP’s reset/troubleshooting guidance if necessary.
“Load Paper” or paper not feeding
If the M255dw displays a Load Paper message but does not pick up paper, check the paper itself, how it is stacked in the tray, and whether the tray or paper path is obstructed. Damaged, curled, wrinkled or poorly stored paper can contribute to feed problems.
Cartridge and supply messages
Read the exact cartridge message and color shown on the touchscreen before replacing anything. Toner families are region-specific: HP lists 206A/206X for North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific and Japan, while Europe, Russia/CIS, the Middle East and Africa use 207A/207X families.
If your message is not covered here
Use the official HP support link on this page and search the exact control-panel wording. That is safer than applying a fix written for a different LaserJet model simply because its error sounds similar.
