Step-by-step help for HP LaserJet Pro P1102 Printer Offline.
What to check when your P1102 shows offline
If your HP LaserJet Pro P1102 appears as Offline, your computer is currently unable to communicate properly with the printer.
For the standard P1102, start by checking the printer, USB connection and print queue rather than wireless-network settings.
Start with these quick checks
Before changing drivers or printer settings:
- Make sure the P1102 is turned on.
- Check the printer’s status lights.
- Make sure paper is loaded.
- Check for a paper jam.
- Check the USB cable at both ends.
- Restart the printer.
- Restart the computer.
- Try printing again.
A temporary USB connection or print-queue problem may disappear after restarting both devices.
Check the print queue
A stalled print job can prevent later documents from printing.
Open the P1102 print queue on your computer.
Cancel documents that are stuck or no longer required, and make sure printing has not been paused.
Then try printing a simple document again.
Make sure the correct printer is selected
If the P1102 has been installed more than once, your computer may contain multiple entries for the printer.
Make sure the document is being sent to the P1102 installation that is actually connected.
Also check whether another printer has been selected as the default printer.
Check the USB connection
If the printer remains offline:
- Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
- Try another USB port on the computer.
- Avoid using a USB hub while troubleshooting.
- If available, test another suitable USB cable.
Then restart the printer and try printing again.
Check the printer itself
What appears to be a connection problem may actually be caused by the printer waiting for another issue to be resolved.
Check for:
- No paper
- A paper jam
- A toner cartridge problem
- An open cartridge door
- An error indicated by the printer’s status lights
Resolve any printer error first, then try printing again.
Printer is online but still won’t print
If your computer no longer shows the P1102 as offline but documents still do not print:
- Clear the print queue.
- Make sure the P1102 is selected.
- Restart the printer.
- Restart the computer.
- Try printing another document.
- Check the USB connection.
- Check the HP software installation.
Don’t immediately reinstall the driver if the printer was previously working. Rule out simpler connection and print-queue problems first.
Try another USB port or computer
If possible, testing another USB port can help determine whether the problem is related to the original connection.
You can also connect the printer to another compatible computer if one is available.
If the P1102 works normally on another computer, the problem is more likely to be related to the original computer’s USB connection, printer configuration or software.
If the printer fails on multiple computers, investigate the USB cable, printer status and printer hardware more closely.
